1) Speaker: Robert Otani, CTO of Thornton Tomasetti

Robert Otani has 20 years of professional experience, including structural design, project management, advanced computational design and modeling. His portfolio includes a variety of sports, commercial high-rise, infrastructure, aviation and cultural projects, as well as structural art. He also has extensive experience designing and detailing architecturally exposed structural steel and concrete structures. Furthermore he supports TT CORE intiatives about:

  • Artificial Intelligence
  • OpenSource
  • Research and Development

and many others.

Special Structures Expertise
An expert in seismic, wind, dynamic and thermal analysis, Rob is the firm’s special structures leader. He served as a technical member of the New York City Model Code Program for three years and is the author of several technical papers and publications. His long-standing involvement with the Structural Engineers Association of New York includes chairmanship of the Codes and Standards Committee and a year’s tenure as president of the organization in 2007.

Academic Contributions
Rob has served as adjunct instructor at Columbia University’s Graduate School of Architecture, Planning and Preservation and as an adjunct assistant professor at Pratt Institute’s Undergraduate School of Architecture.

Outside of Work
Rob’s hobbies are closely related to his work. In his free time, he designs structurally complex sculptures. A boating enthusiast, he also designs and builds sailboats and kayaks.

Ehsan, like you, is a tinkerer and maker. Curiosity is his power, and making things better, his purpose. He has worked as an Architect for many years developing the pyRevit project. Now he is at McNeel working on the Rhino.Inside.Revit to being the incredible power of Grasshopper and Rhino Geometry engine to AEC.

Rhino.Inside® is an open source Rhino WIP project which allows Rhino and Grasshopper to run inside other 64-bit Windows applications such as Revit, AutoCAD, etc.

With Rhino.Inside is now possible to:

  • Start Rhino and Grasshopper as an add-in to other applications,
  • Drive the host application with Grasshopper definitions.
  • Use the host’s APIs in a Grasshopper and Rhino plug-in.
  • Use Rhino’s APIs in the host’s plug-ins.
  • Create native objects in the host application with Rhino and Grasshopper
